Mercouris's commentary has been characterized by some as aligning with pro-Russian narratives, leading to criticism and petitions calling for the removal of his content from platforms like YouTube. change.org

Notes: on his disbarment:

Alexander Mercouris was disbarred in 2012 following a series of professional misconduct incidents. In one case, he falsely informed his client, Lorna Jamous, that she had been awarded £983,000 in damages, prompting her to incur debts in anticipation of the payout. To support this deception, he fabricated a letter purportedly from Baroness Hale, then Deputy President of the Supreme Court, expressing concern over the delayed payment. Additionally, Mercouris concocted a story claiming he was kidnapped by bogus police officers and taken to a meeting with Lord Phillips, the then Lord Chief Justice, who allegedly offered him a £50,000 bribe to drop the case. These actions led the Bar Standards Board to conclude that he had engaged in conduct likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession, resulting in his disbarment. Reference article.

In his own account, Mercouris has attributed his misconduct to severe depression and a nervous breakdown, expressing remorse for his actions. telegraph.co.uk
